The next HSA Regional Meeting in KZN will be held on the 18th April 2018 at the St James on Venice Road.  Professor Ross will be the guest speaker. Please note this will be awarded 2 Level 1 B CPD points.

Please find the talk summary and agenda below.

A new direction in homoeopathic clinical research

Homoeopathic provings form the basis of the materia medica, and there is an unquestioned understanding amongst homoeopaths that symptoms produced in provings have a direct relationship to clinical success: the symptoms produced in provers are directly correlated to symptoms manifest in patients, and clinical success is assured when these two data sets demonstrate significant overlap.

Is this assumption correct?

Clinical verification research seeks to validate the assumption by scientifically exploring the relationship between the materia medica of homoeopathic remedies (as derived from provings) and the symptoms manifest in those patients who show significant clinical improvement after administration of a given remedy.

The talk will cover:

  • recent methodological refinements in proving methodology;
  • the proving/clinical success challenge;
  • ‘clinical verification’ as a regulatory challenge;
  • an overview of types of ‘evidence’ of homoeopathic effect;
  • clinical verification and case study reporting as ‘evidence’, including a recent study on Arsenicum album, the CONSORT guidelines and Naranjo criteria;
  • clinical verification research in the South African context.
